I bought this cap to use with a new wall mount exhaust fan in our kitchen. It is sturdy and heavy gauge, and it seems to be well-made. I wouldn't say that the packaging was especially great; it arrived bare in a cardboard box with no padding material (is padding necessary for such a unit? I don't know myself.) Anyway, one corner of the flashing was slightly bent (easily straightened) and the spring-loaded trap door had come apart from the cap body. I was able to re-attach it without much trouble, including the spring. After that, everything worked fine. Overall, a good choice--solid, good design, critter mesh good; trap door seems to work fine, but if yours comes off during shipping be careful to re-attach it properly. The spring needs to be oriented against the damper the correct way or else the damper will not function properly (duh). Would buy again.

the packaging doesn't protect the corners of the base, the flashing. As you can see from the picture, they are sharp, and they went through the cardboard box. They could be hammered out, but they are not as flat then as originally. It's still a good product at a good price, and I would recommend it.
